David Bertschi: the behind-the-scenes man
David Bertschi has been running on a platform of “restoring the Canadian advantage.”
A practising lawyer since 1985, Bertschi said the Liberal Party needs to rebuild itself with more business people rather than career politicians.
Bertschi is a founding partner at Bertschi Orth Smith LLP, a legal practice in Ottawa-Orléans. He has written numerous articles and spoken at conferences throughout Canada and the United States.
He was appointed Chair of the International Practice and Substantive Section by the Federation of Defence and Corporate Counsel in 2008. Throughout his legal career, he has also taught a series of courses ranging in business and insurance law for Carleton University, the Law Society of Upper Canada, the Canadian and Ontario Bar Association, the Carleton County Law Association, the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, and many other organizations.
He has served behind the scenes in the Liberal Party, working for former prime ministers John Turner and Jean Chretien as an organizer. Bertschi ran for the first time in the 2011 federal election, as the Liberal Party’s candidate in the riding of Ottawa-Orleans but lost to his Conservative opponent
