Shop owner scorns high property taxes; praises downtown development
By Greg Murphy
BELLEVILLE – The QNetNews Municipal Election Project team spoke with Funk and Gruven A-Z owner Mike Malachowski about the issues that matter most to him as the owner of a business downtown.
Malachowski introduced another element to the discussion the project team has been having with downtown business owners. He thinks property taxes downtown are too high.
Like other business owners downtown that we’ve spoken with, Malachowski thinks bringing residential development downtown is needed to kick-start a booming downtown economy for business.
Malachowski also said the construction that follows with development downtown – be it residential development, or repairs to infrastructure – may present a list of problems with the flow of traffic to his store.
