Loyalist College offers female students self-defence program.
Loyalist College will be offering to teach women practical self-defence techniques again this year on campus, October 12 and 13 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
It’s part of something called R.A.D. or the Rape Aggression Defence System. This program is to give women the opportunity to practice self defence that can be used in ways that they feel they are feeling attacked or threatened.
The course is free to female students at Loyalist.
Although the course is open to all women at Loyalist, Julie Millar a councillor at Loyalist College told QNet news through e-mail that there is no specific target audience within female population.
Millar says the program had a great turnout last year and there was lots of positive feedback.
During the course, women will have an opportunity to practice a variety of physical self defence strategies. The course also outlines risk reduction strategies in various environments.
“Our hope is that participants will walk away with an increased knowledge and confidence with respect to how to keep themselves safe,” said Millar in an email.
Previously Loyalist College offered the course during evening hours.
