Work on County Road 49 will delay traffic next week
By Cali Doran
BELLEVILLE – There will be traffic disruptions next week as work begins on a project to fix one of the worst roads in Ontario.
County Road 49 in Prince Edward County was named the 10th worst road in the province by the Canadian Automobile Association.
Starting Tuesday, there will be heavy equipment on the road as work is done to assess its condition and develop plans for the repair work it needs. The work will mean lane closures and traffic delays between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. from Tuesday to Friday, the county says. It’s asking motorists to avoid the area if possible.
The work will begin at the south end of the road and continue northward.
“As a major access route, County Road 49 is one of our highest infrastructure priorities,” Prince Edward County Mayor Robert Quaiff said in a press release in July. “This detailed study is necessary as we seek to develop a funding strategy for rehabilitating the road.”
