New fire chief selected for Brighton
By Joseph Carin
BRIGHTON – Deputy chief Rick Caddick was announced as the new fire chief for Brighton Tuesday.
Caddick, who served as deputy chief for the Brighton department for three years, was selected out of 20 other candidates who applied for the position.
When asked if there are any immediate plans for the department, Caddick said that he will continue to build upon his prior work as deputy.
“We’ve started a couple of initiatives already. I have been the deputy chief here for over three years so there (are) certainly plans to carry on and continue to enhance some the programs were are currently running.”
Caddick served as the fire chief for Stirling-Rawdon for four years prior to his time with the Brighton department.
He wants to bring innovative ideas in his new position, he said.
“In fire service, like many services, things are always changing. They are becoming more modern, with different learning techniques being developed. We have a good team here and look forward to enhancing fire safety here in the municipality of Brighton.”
The announcement comes as fire chief Lloyd Hutchinson, who has served for 29 years, retires Feb. 28. Caddick assumes the position March 1.
