BELLEVILLE – Loyalist College and a Toronto brewing company have teamed up to try to develop the world’s first beer made entirely from cannabis.
The Applied Research Centre for Natural Products and Medical Cannabis at Loyalist has started a one-year research project with Province Brands of Canada, a Toronto company that makes cannabis beers and spirits. The goal is to produce a beer brewed entirely from cannabis plants instead of barley or grains.
Dooma Wendschuh, the chief executive officer of Province Brands, said the beer would be a safer alternative to alcohol.
In February, Loyalist College’s research lab received a grant of $660,000 from the Ontario government for marijuana research.
QNet News will be visiting the applied research centre and talking to people there about the cannabis beer project.
More to come.
