Trenton High School will receive more money towards their new track.
On Tuesday the City of Quinte West and the family of Doug Whitley & Whitley Insurance will give Trenton High School’s Track Quest project a significant donation. The city will donate $150,000 and then the Whitleys will donate an undisclosed amount.
Fundraising since May 2010, according to the Track Quest website, the school has risen close to $300,000. Also on the site it says that their goal for fundraising is $450,000-$500,000. With the donation from the city and the Whitleys, the school will be at their goal.
The city chose to support the project because it will benefit the community. In a news release Mayor John Williams notes “to support the THS Track Quest as students, their families and community residents will all benefit from a refurbished, modern track facility. It’s truly a community resource.”
Also in the press release the Whitley family said that donating to the school would be in memory of their father.
“Our dad felt a personal commitment to the success of this project, and our gift is a tribute to him,” said the release.
