Butterfly Run wins award for outstanding volunteer fundraiser
BELLEVILLE – The Butterfly Run, a local organization that helps families who lost a child due to miscarriage or infant death, won an award for being an “Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser” in the area.
On Nov. 14, the Association of Professional Fundraisers South Eastern Ontario Chapter held its 13th Annual Philanthropy Day Award in Kingston. Two local organizations were nominated.
Barb Mattucci, Beth Primeau and Loralee McInroy, who organized The Butterfly Run, were nominated by Belleville General Hospital Foundation.
The BGHF also nominated another local fundraiser, Margie Burness, in the same category.
The Butterfly Run was organized by women who experienced infant or pregnancy loss and wanted to break the silence around the topic. The group has raised more than $175,000 for Quinte Health Care through an annual run.
They provide Butterfly Kits for families that experience loss in the maternity ward at the Belleville General Hospital. Each kit includes items such as: a book for parents, a butterfly bracelet made by a bereaved mom, Kleenex, a letter from a woman who also experienced a loss, a muslin swaddle blanket, as well as resources and support information.
They also provide Early Loss Butterfly Kits for all emergency departments across Quinte Health Care.
