Weird weather affecting tourism in Quinte region
By David Bui
BELLEVILLE – In the midst of an odd winter season with very little snow, several local businesses are suffering.
Dave Chatterton, owner of Fish Finder Charters in Carrying Place, a company that rents ice-fishing huts, told QNet News he’s lost three weeks’ worth of business to the weather.
Bayside Outfitters Ice Hut Rentals in Quinte West is not renting out huts for ice fishing at all because of the weather conditions, says owner Shawn Patel. Several other ice-hut rental places in the Trenton and Belleville area – including Bay of Quinte Ice Hut Rentals, No-Chills Ice Fishing Inc. and Frank’s 1 Stop Fishin’ Shop – have gone out of business.
OPP warn the public to always check the ice levels before going out onto any frozen water and to plan ahead.
