BELLEVILLE – A 78-year-old Ameliasburgh man died after an ice boat collision on the Bay of Quinte near Rednersville Road in Ameliasburgh on Tuesday.
The man was brought to the shore by local residents who witnessed the event. Prince Edward OPP and emergency medical services arrived at the scene around 3:40 p.m.
Police said one witness said they saw an ice boat strike a pressure crack causing the front blade to jam, stopping the boat immediately.
The witness put on a floater suit and went out on the ice to help. A few others helped give the man CPR until the paramedics took over, but the man could not be saved.
A post mortem will be conducted by a coroner to confirm the cause of death.
With this being the second ice incident within three days, police are reminding everyone to remain cautious on the ice, since it can vary in thickness and strength in different areas.
