Students protesting in Toronto against OSAP policy changes

BELLEVILLE – Ontario students are rallying at Queen’s Park in Toronto to demand the provincial government reverse its new policy for OSAP funding.
The march is to last from noon to 3 p.m on Monday. It will begin at the corner of University Avenue and Armoury Street and end at Queen’s Park.
The protest is starting to die down at Queen’s Park as many students have started to leave around 1:30 p.m.
Premier Doug Ford’s policy changes include a 10 per-cent-cut to tuition, but students will no longer have a six-month grace period to repay their debts. They will have to start paying back their loans immediately after graduation.
Other changes include higher-income families being ineligible for OSAP and a reduction in the amount of money students can receive as grants that do not have to be repaid.
