Death at homeless shelter in Cobourg

BELLEVILLE – A resident died at the Transition House Shelter for homeless people in Cobourg Monday night, according to a media release by the shelter on Wednesday.
Emergency services were called to the shelter at 11:35 p.m. when one of the residents was found unresponsive, according to the news release.
Efforts to resuscitate the person were unsuccessful and they were pronounced dead, it said, adding that the cause of death is not known at this time.
Cobourg Police declined to comment.
The Transition House news release said there are no risks to the health and safety of other residents or staff.
It quotes Transition House board chair Marsha Jones as saying, “Staff and clients mourn over this tragic loss of life, and we extend their sincerest condolences to this individual’s family and friends.”
Transition House continues to operate at full capacity, the news release said.
