BELLEVILLE – One eastbound lane of Highway 401 is now open between Glen Miller and Wallbridge-Loyalist roads following a tractor-trailer fire on Tuesday morning.
At 8:40 a.m., Quinte West OPP and firefighters responded to a report of a tractor-trailer engulfed in flames 1.5 kilometres east of St. Hilaire Road. Emergency services had both eastbound lanes closed for about 2½ half hours to contain the fire.
The fire is now out, but traffic is moving slowly through the one open lane, which is causing considerable delays, according to the OPP.
Officials from the Ontario ministry of the environment were investigating as hazardous materials are believed to be involved.
No one was injured in the fire, the OPP said.
