Dangerous drug found in Xanax pills in Cobourg
BELLEVILLE – Flualprazolam, a highly addictive substance, has been detected in Xanax pills that were seized recently in a Cobourg police investigation.
The police were notified Wednesday by Health Canada that the dangerous drug had been found in the seized pills, according to a news release Thursday.
Flualprazolam is classified as a “designer drug,” meaning it was created to be a synthetic alternative to a narcotic drug. According to the World Health Organization, the drug affects its user like Xanax, but with more potent side effects.
Flualprazolam is listed as extremely addictive and easy to abuse. Withdrawal symptoms are intense, with a high risk of seizures.
Cobourg police are urging people to contact them immediately if they come into contact with any unknown narcotics.
If you need to take narcotics, police ask that you ensure there are other people present and that emergency services can be contacted if need be.
