By Harrison Perkins
The Central Hastings OPP detachment is alerting residents of a telephone scam that has been going on across North America.
In a release from the OPP, a man who claimed to be with “Windows 7” contacted the victim. The caller told the victim that Windows had found problems on his computer, once the alleged problems were fixed, the suspect tried to persuade the victim to give personal information. When the victim didn’t comply to hand over any personal information the suspect eventually hung up.
Community services officer Terry Briard with Central Hastings OPP said that this particular scam has been going on for quite some time.
“We want to remind the public to never give out any personal information over the telephone,” Briard said.
