Loyalist College plans new media facility

The opening of a new integrated newsroom at Loyalist is exciting for Jane Harrison, dean of the school of media, art and design at Loyalist College excited.
“It’s been in the making for the past about three years. It was brought around by the industry. And a desire by all of us here to stay slightly ahead of the pack,” Harrison said.
The new integrated newsroom will feature video edit suites, audio production booths, a simulated studio with its own lighting grid, individual interview booths, production meeting rooms for long format and crew projects and a casual resting room.
Harrison thinks that putting all the media resources in the one area will help being media students together.
“I think there’s a willingness within the program teams to collaborate on projects of similar interest, so yes I think it’ll being the media students together more. Particularly photo journalism, sport journalism, and journalism will be more united.”
Once the Board of Governors decides on a location, the newsroom should be completed by May 2013.
