A police standoff that lasted 5-and-a-half hours ended peacefully Monday morning with an arrest.
Police arrived at an apartment complex off Cascade Blvd. at about 3 a.m. Monday to investigate a domestic dispute.
Two of the home’s residents, a woman and a child, left upon police arrival. Neither one was injured.
A third resident, armed with a knife, refused to come outside or cooperate with police.
Police, crisis negotiators and an emergency response team surrounded the residence throughout the night.
At about 8:30 a.m., the man surrendered and was taken down by police outside the building.
Residents from two nearby units were evacuated during the standoff as a precaution.
A 30-year-old Belleville man is in custody. He is charged with assault with a weapon.
He has a bail hearing today.
An investigation is ongoing.
