A registered sex offender has moved to Belleville and the police are warning the public.
Robert Lavergne, 33, who served three years in federal prison for a variety of sexual offences involving minors, moved to Belleville Thursday.
Detective Marlene Gray says the police do not release these warning often, but when they do they’re important.
“We review on a case-by-case basis,” says Gray. “And in this specific case we felt like it was necessary to release it to the media.”
Lavergne’s criminal history includes sexual interference, invitation to sexual touching, obtaining sexual services from a person under 18, and failing to comply.
He is under strict surveillance by police and cannot engage in activities with those under 16 years old, cannot be around parks, day cares, playgrounds, or schools, and must check in with police regularly.
Lavergne is described as 5’11, 240 lbs, brown hair, and brown eyes.
Gray says that if a resident sees him and feels there’s a cause for concern they are encouraged to call police for an investigation.
