Recent power outages not connected, Hydro One says

BELLEVILLE – Two recent widespread power outages in the Belleville area were not
connected, Hydro One says.
Although the outages affected some of the same customers, the causes were
different, said Nancy Shaddick, a communications officer with Hydro One.
The outage on Oct. 28 affected 6,242 Hydro One customers and also affected
customers of Veridian, the main power supplier to the city of Belleville.
“Power was restored by an alternate supply. (Hydro One crews) were able to bring
in power through different means in order to restore power to the customers
affected,” said Shaddick.
The outage, which lasted from 12:45 p.m. to shortly before 3 p.m., was caused by a
fault in a breaker, she said.
A second outage, from 4:18 to 5:44 p.m. Monday, affected 7,644 Hydro One
customers. The cause of that outage was a switch that had to be replaced, Shaddick
said.
