BELLEVILLE – There are a number of issues on the agenda tonight at Belleville city council.
The future of the city-owned Dick Ellis Arena will be up for discussion again. Council will be asked to approve the sale of the property at 14 Harder Dr. to the Quinte Bay Gymnastics Club.
The arena was originally declared surplus by council on May 13 and was offered to the public through a request-for-proposal process. During its last regular meeting, council asked for a review of Quinte Bay Gymnastics Club’s finances before finalizing a deal to accept the club’s offer.
The details of the offer from the gymnastics club include $125,000 cash, that the city take possession of the club’s current home, the Ben Bleeker building at 18 Yeoman St., and that the city hold a $450,000 mortgage for the club, money that would be used for renovations to the arena.
Council will also discuss licensing and regulations for flea markets. This comes after a deputation was made to council last week from a potential flea-market operator who was concerned about the price of licences. Flea markets currently fall under the category of sellers of secondhand goods, which comes with an operator fee of $500 for a new licence and $150 to renew a licence.
Council will also be asked to accept a tender for refurbishment to the Kinsmen Pool. The tender is from Acapulco Pools Ltd. for close to $559,000 and includes the supply of equipment, repairs and installation of an upgraded pool.
In deputations, Mayor Neil Ellis will present a certificate of recognition to Master Seaman Kristianna Barton for a rescue she made Sept. 29, and Gary Magwood will make a presentation to council on behalf of Downtown Docfest.
Council will meet at 4 p.m. in the council chambers.
