BELLEVILLE – Belleville city council has approved a tender for major upgrades to the Kinsmen Pool.
A submission from Acapulco Pools Ltd. was the lowest of four tenders, coming in at just under $559,000 including HST.
The city’s director of recreation, Mark Fluhrer, said the project will be a complete renovation of the pool, which was built around 1948. Upgrades include replacing all of the mechanical systems, making the building more energy-efficient and accessible, fixing the deck, adding shade features and upgrading all of the equipment.
The Kinsmen was previously approved for one of the two splash pads coming to the city, which will be built by the same contractor.
An additional $250,000 has been budgeted to give the neighbouring park a facelift as well, Fluhrer said.
The complete package of projects at the Kinsmen is expected to be done in time for a July 1, 2014, opening.
