BELLEVILLE – A witness for the defence in the manslaughter trial of Christopher Kameka told court Thursday that she saw the accused crying and upset upon learning of the death of David Bain in the summer of 2012.
Bain, 29, died around 2 a.m. in the parking lot of Vic’s Place, a bar on Bridge Street, on July 31 after a fight.
Elizabeth Cooley testified Thursday that Kameka was living at her home at the time. She and her spouse drove Kameka to Vic’s at about 10:45 p.m. the night of July 30 and returned to pick him up at a friend’s home at 5 a.m. the next morning, she said. Kameka did not appear intoxicated at either time, she told the court.
On the afternoon of July 31 she went shopping with Kameka at a dollar store and he ran into a friend who informed him of Bain’s death, she said.
“Chris was upset that someone passed away. He was crying,” she said.
The court has previously heard that Bain’s death was due to alcohol intoxication and a concussion.
The jury was dismissed until 10 a.m. on Tuesday
