BELLEVILLE – Christopher Kameka has been found not guilty of manslaughter in the death of David Bain in a fight in the summer of 2012 outside a Belleville bar.
As the verdict was announced, Kameka turned in his chair to face the packed courtroom and gave two thumbs up. Friends and relatives of Bain left quickly. Some had tears in some of their eyes.
The jurors returned their verdict just after 3 p.m., after two days of deliberations that went until 9 p.m. on Tuesday and resumed at 10 a.m. today. They had asked to review witnesses’ testimony during their deliberations.
Kameka, 27, and Bain, 29, got into late-night fight at Vic’s Place in July 2012, the trial heard. Bain had no vital signs after the final punch was thrown and was pronounced dead at Belleville General Hospital that night.
