Pond hockey tournament raises money for charity

BATAWA – Canadian Forces Base Trenton held its annual charity pond hockey tournament here last weekend.
The Pond Hockey Classic had 32 teams competing while raising money for the Military Family Fund and the Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation.
The Military Family Fund helps individuals and families who have been affected by military service.
The Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation helps to raise money to support the hospital.
Robert Arsenault was there to support his son competing in the tournament.
“I think it’s a great cause and as far as I’m concerned this couldn’t be a more fun atmosphere,” said Arsenault.
Jeff Moorhouse was one of the organizers of the tournament. He said it has gone from a casual day three years ago to an event raising thousands of dollars.
“We started with 12 teams, one rink, and one day and we raised $6,700. We realized we might be on to a good thing. We thought we’d just expand it the next year and the snowball started rolling.”
This year the tournament raised $36,000 for the charities.
