Spanish photographer visits Belleville
By Riley Maracle
BELLEVILLE – A world-travelling photographer is visiting Belleville to display some of his work.
Daniel Casares Roman, 38, of Jerez de la Frontera, Spain, has been taking photographs for 20 years. He has travelled to places such as New York, Russia, Thailand, India and many more, but this is his first time in Belleville. His work has been published in the National Geographic.
His exhibit, called Human Color, is 25 of his favourite photographs. They’re on display at the Core Arts and Culture Centre at 223 Pinnacle St.
Why Belleville? Roman said he chose this city because he enjoys working in small towns. He added that he was out photographing ice fishers on Thursday morning.
What he enjoys photographing most is human beings, he said.
“I never take pictures (of) landscapes, or of animals.”
He added that his photographs aren’t for him.
“I like to say something about (different) people. I don’t want to express my feelings in my work.”
The exhibit opened Jan. 17 and will be closing on Jan. 31. After Roman leaves Belleville his next stop on his journey is Italy.
