Power outage due to vandalism
BELLEVILLE – Many Prince Edward County residents woke up to no power Monday morning after a vandal entered Hydro One premises on University Avenue in Belleville and removed metal from some equipment.
Hydro One spokesperson Tiziana Accerga Rosa told QNet News that Hydro One started receiving calls from customers at around 2:30 Monday morning. A total of 9,360 homes were affected, but most of them have regained power, she said. As of 10:30 a.m. 838 homes were still without power, but Hydro One was telling customers it should be restored by noon.
Accerga Rosa said vandalism isn’t a very common cause of power outages in the area.
“Unfortunately it’s just something that happens sometimes,” she said.
She did not have an estimate for the cost of the repairs.
Police are investigating.
