BELLEVILLE – Students at Loyalist College were honoured Thursday during the 2014 spring student awards.
A total of 78 students received $65,175 worth of bursaries.
“We know that financial assistance makes a difference,” said Donna Gowthorpe, chair of the Loyalist grants committee.
Maureen Piercy, the president of Loyalist College, spoke before the presentation ceremony and said the awards are a great way to celebrate and give recognition to students who deserve it.
“We know that these awards make a significant and lasting effect on students,” she said.
Chantel Johnston, a Business Administration student, and Elizabeth Kryschuk, a Business and Human Resources student, received this year’s Student Leadership Award.
Dianne Spencer, Loyalist’s executive director of college advancement, speaks on why Johnston and Kryschuk were the perfect candidates:
Twenty-four students were awarded the First Generation Bursary, an award to students who are the first in their family to take post-secondary education.
