Police run passes through Quinte
By Katy Burley
BELLEVILLE – The National Peace Officers Memorial Run will be passing through the Quinte region Friday.
The run started in Toronto Thursday, and will be heading from Cobourg to Brockville Friday morning, making stops in both Trenton and Belleville.
The run was started in 2005 by the Peel Regional Police running team, the Pacers, to raise awareness of the annual Police and Peace Officers Memorial Service on Parliament Hill in Ottawa. Not only are the participants raising awareness, they’re also raising money. Funds raised will go toward trust funds for the families of officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty, to help fund the annual memorial service, and to help fund any memorial or service for fallen police officers.
Since 2005 the run has grown to over 250 participants, and has raised around $95,000.
