BELLEVILLE – Loyalist College’s Alumni Hall was quiet in anticipation as Tuesday night’s mayoral debate began.
All seven candidates attended the event, and reporters weren’t the only ones taking notes. Candidates kept respectfully attentive to each other’s responses in between presenting their own opinions.
Among the issues raised were the new police station, jobs for students, bike paths, road improvements, and environmental concerns.
Former Loyalist vice-president (academic) Jeffrey Cudmore moderated the event, while Michelle Poirer of the Loyalist Journalism program asked the candidates questions gathered by journalism students filing from throughout Belleville via social media.
The event was broadcast live over the college radio station, CJLX 91X Fm. There was also live coverage at QNetNews, and through the QNet News Twitter and Facebook feeds. Cogeco TV will also air the debate later as part of its Behind the Ballot election coverage.
The debate began at 7 p.m and ran until 8:30 p.m. Candidates are invited to answer the public’s remaining questions online at qnetnews.ca.
More to come on Wednesday.
