Harmony Public School opening to students

BELLEVILLE – The long-awaited opening of Harmony Public School is finally happening.
Last year the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board announced that they would be building a new school. The construction started in September 2013, and the new facility was supposed to be opened for this school year. Because of the delay, students have been placed at three other local schools – Sir Winston Churchill Public School, William R. Kirk Public School, and Quinte Secondary School.
Now, the school is ready to be opened. The school staff will be on site this week to prepare for students’ arrival next week. The school will be partially opened on Oct. 28, even though minor construction will still be underway, including the installation of the gym floor.
“I would like to express my sincere appreciation to our families, students, and employees who have been patient and understanding as we worked through this significant project,” said Kerry Donnell, communications officer for the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board, in a newsletter sent out to parents on Monday.
Students will remain at their alternative schools for the remainder of this week.
