Federal Conservative hopeful disqualified from running
BELLEVILLE – A Conservative candidate for the newly created Bay of Quinte riding in next year’s federal election, Susan Sweetman, is no longer running.
Party leaders have disqualified Sweetman from the attempting to represent the Conservatives. The reason for the disqualification is Sweetman not being a member of the party for the mandatory six months, reports say.
The process that candidates must go through is a complex one, says Jodie Jenkins, vice-president of the Conservative party in the Bay of Quinte riding.
“There’s a long list of requirements and all the candidates, anyone who’s interested, does have to fill out the 51-page form and there’s checks and balances on all levels. It is a stringent process that we go through,” he said.
Jenkins is also running to represent the Conservatives in the riding for next year’s election, along with John Bonn and Don Bonter. The three candidates have passed through the vetting process.
Sweetman told QNet News through email that she is not doing interviews and the real news lies with the three remaining contestants.
The nomination meeting will take place this Saturday.
