BELLEVILLE – People lined the streets of Hamilton Tuesday as the funeral procession for Cpl. Nathan Cirillo passed by.
Two Belleville police officers traveled to the event on Tuesday to pay their respects.
“He was standing, protecting and honoring the memorial which is a reflection of our country,” said inspector Marlene Gray. “It was important to have the officers there in order to show respect to his family and the military as a whole.”
Cirillo was standing guard at the National War Memorial in Ottawa last Wednesday when he was shot dead. The gunman then proceeded to enter the Centre Block of the Parliament Buildings.
Prime Minister Stephen Harper and his wife were also in attendance.
The full service was held at Christ’s Church Cathedral, and was closed to the public. There was tight security in and around the cathedral.
