Poverty challenge at Loyalist
BELLEVILLE – Students from Loyalist College’s Child and Youth Worker program will be participating in a poverty challenge beginning at 9 a.m. Tuesday.
The challenge will take place at various locations across campus, starting in the gymnasium, and involves the participation of first year students of the program.
Lisa Shunock, the program’s co-ordinator, says this is the second year Loyalist is running the activity along with the help of community partners such as United Way of Quinte, Community Development Council of Quinte, Canadian Mental Health Association and Hastings Housing Resource Centre.
The idea of the challenge is to create a real world simulation of what it is like to be a person living in poverty so students can understand the social issues in their community.
