VIA Rail honours Remembrance Day
BELLEVILLE – To commemorate Remembrance Day, VIA Rail Canada has made a donation to The Royal Canadian Legion on behalf of its staff and passengers.
In addition to the donation, the corporation has decided to give free poppies to its passengers until Nov. 11.
Yves Desjardins-Siciliano, president and CEO of VIA Rail, says this years poppy campaign has a certain significance.
“It reminds us not only of conflicts in distant lands or at other times but it also honours the present-day women and men of the Canadian Armed Forces here and abroad. With this modest donation, VIA Rail wishes to honour those who risk so much for our freedoms and our rights,” he said.
Since 2010, VIA has offered a discount to any military and their families. Through this program more than 100,000 soldiers and their family members have traveled aboard the train.
