More snow on the way for much of Southern Ontario
BELLEVILLE – A special weather statement has been issued for the most of Southern Ontario, including Belleville, for Wednesday afternoon and evening.
About 5 cm of snow is expected, but areas closer to the Great Lakes could see higher amounts due to lake effect snow. Environment Canada also says there’s a possibility of high winds and blowing snow which could reduce visibility.
The Quinte region is getting off lightly compared to other parts of Ontario. Peterborough, Muskoka and Barrie had school buses cancelled today due to snow squalls. Further south, in Buffalo, New York, more than 1.5 meters of the white stuff fell by Wednesday morning, stranding motorists on roads and trapping residents in their homes.
The OPP, who have already responded to several accidents along the 401 this afternoon, are reminding motorists to slow down.
