OPP looking to reward youth this winter
by Mark Hodgins
BELLEVILLE – Again this year, the Ontario Provincial Police will be keeping an eye out for young people doing the right thing this winter.
Operation Heat 2014, part of the OPP’s positive ticketing program, is a partnership between the OPP and Mac’s convenience stores across the province. According to a news release from the OPP, when officers see a young person demonstrating “positive actions, positive behavior” and acts of kindness, that youth will be rewarded with a free “ticket” for a hot chocolate.
The OPP hopes to use this program as a way to “establish a dialogue with children in their patrol area and build relationships that will last for years to come.”
Sean Sportun, manager of loss prevention and security for Mac’s in Central Canada, said the company is excited to be a part of sending this positive message to youth.
