Aboriginal Awareness course at Loyalist
BELLEVILLE – Loyalist College is reaching out to anyone interested in First Nations issues through a free Aboriginal Awareness course starting Feb. 7.
Paul Latchford, co-ordinator for the Aboriginal Services at the college, says this course gives everyone the opportunity to learn what they want without judgement and to remove the stigma many people have about First Nations.
“People come in to a safe environment where they’re actually equal, valued and respected. We can drop all … the concerns and they can ask anything they want,” Latchford said.
The course will not only teach its students the history and culture of Aboriginal people, but also raise awareness, Latchford said.
The Aboriginal Awareness course is available to anyone in the community who wishes to attend. It will last eight weeks and will run every Monday at 9 a.m.
