New daycare for Stirling Public School
BELLEVILLE – By late July Stirling Public School will have a new addition to the school.
A daycare centre on the site of the school should be up and running then.
This past Monday at a board meeting in Belleville, the Hastings and Prince Edward District School board approved a $1,075,000 tender for the construction of childcare spaces and a classroom.
Kerry Donnell, communications officer for the board, says having the daycare at the school makes sense.
“I think it is wonderful that a local public school in the community can have a childcare centre in place. It is a natural connection. We think that if children at the childcare facility can naturally proceed to a public school for junior kindergarden and elementary school (it will build) a really strong connection for the school, the school community and families,” said Donnell.
“When the school was built a couple of years ago there where some initial conversation about building a daycare at that time” said Donnell.
“It has just taken some time for this to come out and come to a place where we can have the plans in place and move to the tendering and construction phases,” she said.
Although the daycare is not run by the school, Donnell says they are always looking to partner with community organization or agencies.
“When we were approached about partnering for a child care space facility in Stirling we were happy to be involved,” she said.
