Time to spring forward into daylight savings
BELLEVILLE – Canadians will be rolling their clocks ahead by an hour this Sunday as daylight savings time is here.
As of 2 a.m. on Mar. 8 the clocks go ahead, meaning people will have an added hour of daylight and one less hour of sleep Saturday night.
However, not all Canadians are affected by the time shift. It’s up to each province to decide if it will use daylight savings or not.
Saskatchewan observes Central Standard Time year round and residents do not move their clocks ahead. There are some exemptions though. The city of Lloydminster, Saskatchewan observes Mountain Standard Time and residents will set their clocks forward on Mar. 8, according to Time Temperature.
Germany was the first country in the world to introduce daylight savings time to save energy from artificial lighting during the First World War, according to Time and Date. Other countries soon followed suit, including Canada.
The modern use gives people an extra hour of light everyday. This year it lasts from the second Sunday in March until Nov. 1.
