Belleville man faces child-pornography charges
BELLEVILLE – A 23-year-old Belleville man has been arrested on child-pornography charges, after an international investigation.
The man was charged with possessing, accessing and distributing child pornography over a period of four months. He was also charged with luring a young person by way of telecommunications, and making sexually explicit material available to a young person.
The investigation began in January when Microsoft told the U.S. National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that it had discovered inappropriate content in an online Microsoft cloud account, according to the Belleville Police. It was determined that the account-holder was in Canada and the RCMP took over the case. They discovered that the content was being accessed in Belleville. As a result of multiple search warrants, Belleville Police arrested the man Wednesday.
He was held in custody for a show-cause hearing, a formal bail hearing that occurs when the police are not prepared to release an accused person on a promise to appear later in court. The hearing took place Thursday and the man was released on bail. He is scheduled to appear in court again on May 7.
