New immigration web portal to come to Quinte area
Belleville – The Ontario government has offered the Quinte area almost $100,000 in funding to create a website to attract immigration and foreign business to the area.
Orlando Ferro, the executive director of the Quinte United Immigration Services, says it is a great way to boost the economy and create jobs.
“There is a consensus that unless we have growth in terms of population, the economic growth will also be stagnated,” Ferro says. He believes this website could help counteract this.
Other municipalities in the province are attempting the same type of program. “We would not want to be falling behind,” says Ferro. The hope is the website will help keep the Quinte area competitive.
Ferro said the cities of Belleville and Quinte West are involved in putting the portal together and the Bay of Quinte Living Council will be in charge of website maintenance. Quinte United Immigration Services will help supervise immigration content.
Ferro says the private sector will take over financing the program once the government funding has run out.
