Trenton residents protest hospital cuts
BELLEVILLE – Our Trenton Memorial Hospital had a protest outside Belleville General Hospital on Monday.
The advocacy group is the outlet Trenton residents have chosen to try to save their hospital from closure.
The group was established in January 2015 and had its first rally in February. It opposes the budget cuts made to the hospital by Quinte Health Care.
Mike Cowan, vice-chairman of Our TMH, said Trenton residents are tired of the cuts and will no longer sit back and do nothing.
“Belleville needs to wake up,” said Cowan, adding that if the cuts keep happening to Trenton’s hospital all of its patients will come to Belleville. This would increase Belleville General Hospital’s emergency room wait times by at least double, he said.
The group has plans for more protests later this year. For more information visit its website, ourtmh.com.
