Man who fled country arrested upon return to Canada
BELLEVILLE – A man who was wanted in a sexual assault investigation and fled the country this summer was arrested upon returning to Canada on Tuesday.
On Aug. 19, a 40-year-old woman reported a sexual assault to Belleville Police involving two men in the city.
One of the suspects identified was a 38-year-old temporary Canadian worker. Eight days later, a warrant was issued for the man’s arrest on one count of sexual assault. He was then believed to have fled to Jamaica.
On Tuesday, Belleville Police say, he was arrested by Canada Border Services upon returning to the country.
The man has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in provincial court on Oct. 8.
The other suspect turned himself in earlier this mont and was charged with sexual assault.
