Professional soccer team in Belleville?
BELLEVILLE – Will Belleville soon be home to a professional soccer team?
According to media reports, members of FC Kingston, a professional soccer club, are looking for local support to make it happen.
With enough support, local team Quinte-Belleville Royals will be submitted for approval to play in the 2016 season of League1 Ontario. League 1 is a competitive soccer organization comprised of 13 teams across the province. The season for League 1 lasts from May to October. Deadline for this application is Oct. 23.
The Royals would play home games at the Mary Ann Sills Park, Field 2.
Lorne Abugov, chairman of Kingston-Belleville soccer, explains the tier system for Canadian soccer:
To register with League 1, the Royals will need a group of businesses for sponsorship. They are also looking for a local fan base to help sell tickets and merchandise.
