City to buy more buses for the disabled
By Haley Rose
BELLEVILLE – Belleville city council approved money for three more para-transit buses on Monday.
The buses are built by Overland Custom Coach and are designed for people with physical disabilities.
The vehicles cost nearly $100,000 each.
It will take at least six months for the vehicles to arrive, which means the city will not receive them until early next spring.
Belleville Transit already has one of the buses. Matt Coffey, manager and planner of transit services, spoke to council and explained that the first vehicle the was a big success. These other vehicles would have more room and be able to hold up to five wheelchairs.
