Students walk out of class to support janitors
BELLEVILLE–Students at a number of high schools across the Quinte region walked out of class this week to support their janitors.
Custodial staff at the high schools don’t have a contract and have stopped doing things such as cleaning hallways and emptying garbage as part of a work-to-rule campaign. As a result, students say schools are filthy.
The custodial staff are part of CUPE – the Canadian Union of Public Employees – and have been working without a contract since Aug. 2014.
