Councillor: Trenton ready for its closeup
TRENTON – Duncan Armstrong wants to bring the big screen back to Trenton.
The Quinte West councillor tabled a proposal during Monday night’s City Hall meeting to launch Trenton’s own film festival, with the help of the Toronto International Film Festival.
Armstrong told council he is in talks with the co-founders of TIFF to shine a light on this area’s rich cinematic history.
In the early 1900s, Trenton became a hub for film production, and the city is still remembered for its contributions to the Canadian film industry.
The year 2017 will mark a century since Trenton’s first movie production. Armstrong hopes to commemorate the date with the start of the new film festival.
More to come.
