CFB Trenton holding Sports Day this weekend

BELLEVILLE – Canadian Forces Base Trenton is looking to get people active this weekend for Sports Day in Canada.

The nationwide event is meant to show the power of sport to build community and get Canadians moving.

CFB Trenton will be holding two Sports Days, the first of which will be Friday, with serving members of the military and base employees involved. Day 2 will take place on Saturday, when families and civilians are invited to join.

“It’s very important for Canada as a whole, our health care and for the health of all Canadians,” Maj. Shawn Duffy, co-chair of CFB Trenton’s Sports Day, told QNet News.

There will be more than a dozen events each day, including a 5K run or walk, water polo, soccer, yoga, geocaching and volleyball. Duffy said that he’s looking forward to a day of sports.

“I’m quite an active guy. I play hockey here on the base. I’ve played since I was a kid and I played competitively until I joined the military.”

There will also be an Amazing Race-style event, so people who don’t want to participate in the more physical activities can still be involved, Duffy added.

Saturday’s events kick off at 9 a.m. and wrap up at noon. A barbecue lunch is available that day as well.
