Tyendinaga man appointed to Order of Canada
BELLEVILLE – A man from Tyendinaga Township said it is an enormous honour to be a member of the Order of Canada.
Last Wednesday, Patrick Johnston was appointed at a ceremony in Rideau Hall for his lifelong work in charitable and philanthropic organizations.
He has served on the boards of United Way/Centraide Canada, Canada World Youth and Canada Helps. He is also currently on the board of directors at Quinte Health Care.
He told QNet News that there were some wonderful Canadians joining the Order of Canada alongside him.
There were 94 others appointed at the same time as Johnston.
He was told late last year that he would be joining the Order of Canada. The way he learned he was being appointed was a special moment for him, he said.
Groups of new members are appointed twice a year, with announcements in July and December. Those new members are officially sworn in at Rideau Hall within a year of the announcement.
