Freezing rain in the Quinte area
By Mo Cranker
BELLEVILLE – There have been a number of crashes reported in the area due to freezing weather conditions. Those include:
- The Highway 401 ramp at Exit 509 at Brighton was closed this morning due to a single-vehicle accident involving a tractor-trailer. Police announced a bit after 11:30 a.m. that it has been reopened.
- A two-vehicle collision on the westbound 401, near Napanee.
- Old Highway 2 just east of Shannonville was closed Tuesday morning because of a serious crash.
- A truck was spotted overturned in a ditch off of Wallbridge-Loyalist Road around 6:30 a.m.
A special weather statement issued for Belleville, Quinte and Northumberland by Environment Canada has now ended.
The report warned people of “occasional freezing drizzle and brief freezing rain possible” on Tuesday.
Jessica Blair, from Peterborough, said that having snow tires helped a lot when driving in the freezing rain.
